Sirajganj District of Rajshahi division with an area of about 2497.92 km², is bounded by Bogra District on the north, Pabna district on the south, Tangail and Jamalpur districts on the east, Pabna, Natore and Bogra districts on the west. The main rivers are Jamuna, Baral, Ichamati, Karatoya and Phuljuri. About 10% area of the Chalan Beel is located in the Tarash upazila of this district.
The annual average temperature reaches a maximum of 34.6 °C, and a minimum of 11.9 °C. The annual rainfall is 1610 mm (63.4 in).
Famous local people included Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji, who was a prominent poet and philosopher as well as a famous novelist. The politician Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Vashani was the founder of NAP and Awami Muslim League. 'Abdullah Al Muti Sharfuddin is a scientist. Captain Monsur Ali was the first Finance Minister of Bangladesh. M.A. Matin was born in 1941 in Paikusha under Sadar upazilla and is the founder of M.A. Matin Cotton Mills Ltd. which employs thousands of people. This industry has changed the scenario of this area and introduced to set up many other industries. He is the founder of Hafiza Madrasa and Khamarbari Paikusha Jame Mosque and engaged with many other social activities and organizations.
